Unsent Letters
Write what you can’t say.
You don’t have to send it.
Letters stay with you unless you choose to share them or send them.
Your letters on this device
Write to the person you love, the person you lost, or the person you’re angry with. Write the apology you haven’t managed to make, or the goodbye you never got to say. It doesn’t have to be beautiful and it doesn’t have to make sense yet.
When you’re finished, you choose: keep it, come back to it in a month, share it without your name, or have it delivered to them.
Whatever is happening between you and them right now, you can start here.
What is an unsent letter?
An unsent letter is a letter you write to a real person with no plan to give it to them. People have written them for as long as there have been letters: to someone who left, someone who died, someone they hurt, someone they can’t stop thinking about, or someone who sleeps beside them and still feels far away. Writing one gives a feeling somewhere to go without turning it into a message the other person has to receive.
Counsellors have used the unsent letter for a long time, in grief work especially, because putting the words in order changes how they sit in you. Most people find out what they actually feel somewhere in the second paragraph.
Who people write to
An ex, a partner they are still with, a parent, a friend they lost touch with, a person who died, or a version of themselves from years ago. Most letters here are to someone in a relationship that is changing: starting, straining, pausing, ending, or being remembered a long time later. If what you need to say is an apology, what a real apology looks like may help before you write. If it is something you said over text and wish you hadn’t, this is for you.
What happens to your letter
Nothing, unless you choose something. It stays on your device. You can come back to it in a month and see whether you still feel the same. You can add it, without your name, to the letters people couldn’t send. And if you decide they should read it, you can have it delivered, with your name on it, after you confirm from your email.
Questions people ask
Is it private?
Yes. A letter you keep stays in your browser on your own device. It reaches Comminxy only if you choose to share it to the collection or have it delivered.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up. You are asked for an email address only if you want a letter delivered or want to be reminded on a date you choose.
Can I write to someone who has died?
Yes. Many unsent letters are written to people who are gone. The letter can be addressed to a name, an initial, or no one at all.
Can I upload a letter I wrote by hand?
Yes. You can photograph up to four pages. Hidden details in the photo, such as where it was taken, are removed before anything is kept.
Is this therapy?
No. Unsent Letters is a place to write and a safe place to keep what you wrote. For professional support, a counsellor or therapist is the right next step. If you’re in danger, or thinking about hurting yourself, please reach someone who can help right now.

Before this goes to the collection
Use a nickname or an initial for them, and for anyone else you mention, and leave out anything that would let someone who knows you both recognise them. It appears as soon as you share it, with no name attached.
